SGNI

The Swiss Sustainable Building Council – SGNI is a non-profit association, which aims to promote the sustainability of real estate along the entire life cycle in planning, construction, operation and use, as well as to make it visible and measurable.

The main goals of the SGNI are:

  • Supporting members as active, competent and strong value creation partners in the holistic optimization and sustainable management of real estate over its entire life cycle.
  • Provision of intelligent and internationally recognized management tools from a single source for all tasks of sustainable real estate management in strategy, development, planning, realization, operation, use and reporting in connection with individual buildings, open spaces / areas as well as portfolios.
  • Sharing knowledge on sustainability in real estate through thematic workshops and raising the awareness of a broader public by impulse and discourse events, lectures, articles, position papers and the SGNI website.
  • Promote research on real estate sustainability and the development of sustainable management tools through close collaboration with universities and other education organizations.
  • Provision of basic education, training courses and other further education options for sustainable real estate management, especially with the aim of promoting a value-oriented, holistic awareness of sustainability among consultants, auditors, specialists, project stakeholders, CSR agents, builders, financing partners, investors and decision makers.
  • Promote cooperation between national stakeholders and organizations through joint networking events, actions and collaborations.
  • International cooperation and networking to share know-how and tools that support the implementation of the objectives of the 2030 Agenda in the real estate industry nationally and globally.

Motivation

In order to realize the objectives of the Agenda 2030, it is not only courage, engagement, vision, knowledge, the will to innovate and implementation that is needed, but also the will for a strong cross-border cooperation between actors, disciplines and countries. Not only do the initiators of the G17 initiative stand for these values, but also the members of the SGNI. We are therefore convinced that an engagement is worthwhile and that this European initiative will grow in significance and importance in the future.

Heinz J. Bernegger

For more than a decade now, I have been working intensively on sustainability in the real estate industry. The topic is already well established in Switzerland and many organizations, initiatives and instruments exist. Nevertheless, what proves to be a challenge for today and the future is the holistic integration into existing projects and processes in order to be able to achieve a real impact. That’s why I see it as my mission to actively link people, projects and knowledge about sustainability to contribute personally to more sustainability in Switzerland as well as on this wonderful planet.
